Notes

Taxonomic Notes

This taxon, and others named in the same manner, derive from Australian larvae, some of which are reared, that do not correspond with northern hemisphere defined taxa. No formal diagnosis is provided here – eventually, and with rearings and especially some insights from molecular data, formal taxonomic treatment may be provided.

Ecological Notes

Pentaneurini genus A is widespread in south-eastern Australian rivers and appears to be pollution tolerant (it is one of the first chironomids to colonise the Molonglo River below Captains’ Flat mine discharge. A pupal exuviae from the Corang River, Morton N.P. (NSW) keys to this genus but differs in having a very small plastron plate (no wider than the stem of the plate).
